Avascular Necrosis ? Osteonecrosis ? Read On!

This week, maybe most of my articles is about bone :) I don't know to type about what disease, so i think I type about bone. Let's read guys!

What is Avascular Necrosis ?
Avascular necrosis ( osteonecrosis , aseptic necrosis , osteochondritis dissecans ) is the death of bone tissue due to a failure of blood supply . Avascular necrosis is very common in people between the ages of 30 and 60 years . This disease is very often affects the thigh bone ( femur ) at the hip ( the front of the femur ) . Frequently , both hips affected . In people over 50 years , usually caused by avascular necrosis of hip fractures but may be caused by diseases that block small blood vessels that supply to the ends of long bones . For example , compounds composed of fatty emboli may obstruct the blood vessels in people who consume alcohol . Femur knees are also commonly affected ; arm bone in the shoulder is sometimes affected . Doctors classify avascular necrosis according to whether or not caused by injury . Only the serious injuries that can cause interference ; small wounds can not be . In general , fracture or dislocation , in which the blood vessels to the bone partially torn or physical injury , is a type of injury that can lead to avascular necrosis .

Cause of Avascular Necrosis
Causes are varied and complex Avascular Necrosis , comprehensively and systematically difficult to classify. Doctor in the long-term research and clinical treatment has concluded ten common factors that cause disease

1 . Trauma causing Avascular Necrosis . Such external impacts caused by femoral neck fractures , hip bones and joints shift twisted hip bruise

2 . Avascular Necrosis causes of drug abuse . As a result of bronchitis , asthma , rheumatism , arthritis , neck , back pain and other diseases caused by the use of hormonal drugs in the long term .

3 . Avascular necrosis causes stimulation of excessive alcohol consumption . Clinical manifestations such as ducks walking pace , heart failure , fatigue , abdominal pain , and nausea

4 . Liver and kidney deficiency , osteoporosis , coxa plana and dysplasia in the bone marrow will also cause necrosis of the femoral head .

5 . Avascular Necrosis after surgery , bone transplantation in clinical , vascular transplant after three years , genetically inadequate blood supply , causing necrosis of the femoral head .

In the above factors , local trauma , abuse steroids , excessive alcohol consumption caused by necrosis of the femoral head is often the case . The core issue of the three factors cause the femoral head blood circulation , bone cells caused by ischemia , degeneration and necrosis .

Risk Factors of Avascular Necrosis
The risk of avascular necrosis someone experienced will increase as a person suffering from certain diseases , medical treatment , or drinking alcohol excessively . Here are some factors that increase the risk of avascular necrosis :

1 . Excessive alcohol drinking
Drinking alcohol in the past few years can lead to fatty deposits in the blood vessels . This condition will restrict blood flow to the bone . The more alcohol you drink each day , the higher the risk of avascular necrosis .

2 . Drugs
Several types of medications can increase the risk of avascular necrosis , including :

- Steroids
High doses and long-term corticosteroids , such as prednisone , will increase the risk of avascular necrosis . As with alcohol , these drugs also increase the amount of fat in the blood that causes blockage of the small vessels that lead to the bone .

- Osteoporosis Drugs
People who take bisphosphonates - the type of drug used to help strengthen bones in osteoporosis - are at risk of osteonecrosis of the jaw . The risk is even greater in those who received large doses of bisphosphonates intravenously to counteract the damage caused by cancer in the bone .

3 . Certain medical conditions
Some underlying medical conditions increased risk of avascular necrosis , including :

- HIV/AIDS
- Lupus
- Diabetes
- Sickle cell anemia

4 . Medical Procedures
Some types of medical procedures increase the risk of avascular necrosis , including :

- Cancer treatments such as radiation
- Dialysis , a process to clean up the blood after kidney failure
- Transplant kidneys and other organs

Symptoms of Avascular Necrosis
Avascular necrosis of bone necrosis due to the fragile, coupled with a load on the hip, over time will cause his shattered femur, thus affecting the overall hip bone. The symptoms experienced are as follows:

1. Early avascular necrosis: back pain, back pain ipsilateral, ipsilateral groin pain, experiencing knee pain, shivering limbs, not powered when it will do a lot of activities, aches, fatigue. These symptoms do not always occur at the same time, there are only 1 or 2 types of these symptoms, or sometimes occurs in a short time and then disappear, and can come back.

2. Central avascular necrosis: symptoms revealed very obvious, such as fatigue, pain when walking, impaired functional.

3. End-stage avascular necrosis: patients who limp, which seems most obvious is feeling short legs, difficulty walking, and pain.

Diagnosis of Avascular Necrosis
Avascular necrosis can cause hip pain. Avascular necrosis as a single type of disease, which has its own characteristic. The following methods can be used to diagnose Avascular Necrosis:

1. CT scan: CT scans are used to understand osteonecrosis and to help determine the appropriate treatment method.

2. Ordinary X-ray beam: used to understand the development of osteonecrosis. After the X-ray film on the performance of bone necrosis has progressed to Phase Ⅱ. Marked with a "crescent sign", is the performance of the subchondral bone plate fracture, femur shattered early signaling has entered Phase III.

Treatment of Avascular Necrosis
1 . Treatment Operations
--- to maintain the base of the femur : suitable for early avascular necrosis .

--- arthroplasty surgery : Suitable for patients with avascular necrosis of the thigh runtuhnyapangkal , including : metal cup arthroplasty , resurfacing arthroplasty , hip replacement and total hip arthroplasty .

2 . Traditional Chinese Medicine
Commonly known as TCM or Traditional Chinese Medition used to help accelerate bone regrow new , accelerated bone metabolism , accelerate new bone growth and repair of bone that has been damaged .

3 . Minimally invasive treatment of orthopedic

Minimally invasive orthopedic treatment method was developed by Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou , this treatment concentrates on the area of osteonecrosis , including sequestrum and sclerotic bone and implantation of autologous cancellous bone columns , for pain relief after treatment , bone necrosis has been restored , with the aim of improving the function of the hip . With a small scar , no damage the blood supply around the hips , the high survival rate of the implanted bone and gain success the right .

Daily Care of Avascular Necrosis
1. Appropriate exercise, but with a heavy burden, reduce the friction between the femoral head and acetabulum.

2. Preserve good habits, by not smoking and not drinking.

3. Note that self-protection, to avoid the rough action, so as not to cause damage.

4. Attention to nutritional balance. Most of the staple food rice, flour, grains; non-staple food eating calcium such as milk, dairy products, goat liver, liver, shrimp, nuts, seaweed, eggs and other foods.
