What is Pneumonia ?
Pneumonia is an infection of one or two lungs which is usually caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. Before the discovery of antibiotics, one over three of all the people who had developed pneumonia subsequently died from the infection. Currently, more than 3 million people develop pneumonia each year in the United States. More than half a million of these people are admitted to a hospital for treatment. Although most of these people recover, approximately 5% will die from pneumonia. Pneumonia is the sixth leader of cause of death in America.


Symptoms of pneumonia that harm your child and an adult

X-ray test
Your doctor will do a chest x-ray test. Your chest x-ray scan may show white stains or normal

Sputum
Sputum will be examined under the microscope discretion to see germs. Sputum culture done to determine the type of bacteria.

Blood
Looking cell response to infection. Your white blood cells may have increased or normal or low. Blood cultures may also be done if your doctor thought the occurrence of sepsis or septicemia.
